PB: Dubs will draw me icons.^_^
World Information: Azeroth - setting for World of Warcraft
Personal History: Deralas was born in what used to be the western half of Silvermoon city, the capital city of the blood elves. His father was a mage while his mother was a healer, and he began his own training in using spells and magic while he was still very young. However, even though he had some of the best magi as his teachers, spell-casting was not something Deralas excelled in or even enjoyed. The only thing that made him stick to his lessons was the oft-repeated dream of his father that he follow in his footsteps as a powerful mage, and a rivalry he had with one of his peers, a young high elf named Vynleri. Overall, Deralas was not a very happy child.
That was, until the first time he ran away from home and was attacked by a lynx in the nearby Eversong Woods. A ranger returning to the city found and saved him, fighting and taming the wild cat and earning Dera's admiration. Using all of his saved money to buy a simple bow, Dera snuck out out of his home late one night and used it on a training dummy. He found archery to be something he was naturally good at, and more importantly, it was something he enjoyed.
And thus Dera decided he wanted to become a hunter, despite knowing that his father would never approve of it. He started training in secret, attending less and less of his mage lessons with Vyn covering up for him in exchange for small favors. During this time, he met a hunter named Ruppi, a troll from the Darkspear tribe visiting and helping Silvermoon with the Amani Trolls. The two of them exchanged letters, wherein Dera told Ruppi about his training and asked for advice, while Ruppi (crudely) told him of her exploits. Over time Dera's admiration of Ruppi grew, until Ruppi became his idol and ultimate goal-- the hunter he wanted to become.
Of course, no secret lasts forever. When his father found out about Dera's hunter training, he immediately tried to disown him. Dera's mother stopped him, but the two high elves's relationship were never quite the same. His father used his influence as a mage and member of the government to stop Dera's hunter training and it was only through Ruppi's endorsement, which the high elves couldn't refuse if they wanted to stay on the good side of the Darkspear Tribe, that he was able to continue. Ruppi also helped him tame his first hunter pet, a spectral saber tiger named Uri. In time he became an able hunter, although he wasn't allowed to leave Silvermoon just yet.
So when one of their own betrayed them and allowed the Scourge to pass the Elfgates and march up to the city, Deralas was one of those trapped in all the chaos. With his hunter skills and Uri, he was able to defend himself quite well. He was even able to get out of the city when the elves decided to sacrifice it in order to defeat the Scourge. It wasn't until later however that Deralas found out that his mother, on the other hand, had not. She died during the attack, presumably while looking for him, which made Dera's father hate him all the more. Deralas, on the other hand, hated the older elf for not taking better care of her. He moved out of their home and started living with Vynleri.
Following the decimation of the high elves and the tainting of their Sunwell, the high elves' source of power, their leader, Prince Kael'thas, returned and formed a strike team to destroy the Sunwell. They succeeded, and Kael'thas renamed his people 'blood elves' in honor of those who had fallen. No one anticipated the effect the loss of the Sunwell would have on the blood elves however.
Deralas, along with the rest of blood elves, suffered from a withdrawal-based lethargy as they were all addicted to the magical energies stemming from the Sunwell. In order to seek a cure for this, their prince left his people once more. And although he didn't return himself, Kael'thas sent a messenger to teach the blood elves a new source of magic--fel magic. It was the use of this magic that made the blood elves' eyes turn from blue to green.
With magic back at their fingertips, rebuilding Silvermoon was a breeze. The blood elves purged the city of the remaining Scourge easily and rebuilt the Eastern section "almost overnight". Afterwards, Deralas spent most of his time practically baby-sitting Vynleri-- who, as a mage, more often than not partook too much of fel magic. Eventually, Deralas became discontented with his simple life in the city and dragged Vynleri into signing up for the Horde with him.
And thus began his journey as a hero, a champion of the Horde. Although its beginnings were humble, just simple quests to aid the Undead in their continued fight against the Scourge. From Silvermoon to the Ghostlands, all the way to Hillsbrad Foothills where Vynleri finally grew tired and lazy of their questing and the smell of the Undead. The mage took off just in time for Deralas to reunite with Ruppi. However, Ruppi was still on an entirely different caliber from him and couldn't take him along on her quests. She instead introduced him to a Forsaken Priest named Pidgette, who was unlike anyone Deralas had ever met before.
Pidge was reticent, sardonic and, like rest of her kind, could get pretty fucking depressing. She didn't care much about her own state of being on the account that she didn't feel pain, and teased Deralas a lot about his own mortality. She was a far cry from Vyn, who was a narcissistic asshole who had far too much pride in their race. Deralas would have high-tailed it out of there, ifhe knew where to go not for the fact that she constantly challenged him with her words. And even though he understood that it was her gear that made her powerful, he was still pretty pissed off that an undead priest was faring better than him, a blood elf hunter, in a forest. So he stuck with her, to prove to her that he wasn't the child she kept treating him as.
At least, that was how their journey began. Sometime between Feralas and the Thousand Needles, Pidge started to warm up to Deralas. She even kept a wind rider cub and named it after him, teasing him with it and letting it accompany them in their travels. After lots and lots of convincing, he also managed to get her to show him her face. Pidge was extremely insecure of her appearance as one of the Forsaken, but Dera would always assure her that she looked fine to him. In time, the two of them became real partners.
And Deralas liked visiting the Undercity with her, the capital of the Forsaken. The city had none of the bells and whistles of Silvermoon, and he didn't get dirty looks for walking around with his dusty armor and Uri. The city could sure use better beds and more places to get food from though. Fortunately for him, the first city guard he asked for directions from was a kind Forsaken named Giuseppe. Giuseppe liked to fish, but since he was an undead, he could no longer taste food. This was also the reason there was practically no decent place to eat in Undercity; that and that they didn't need to eat. Giuseppe happily offered to cook for Dera and Dera would always come to him whenever he was in the city. Giuseppe treated him like his kid, a lot more so than Deralas's own father ever had, and Dera would tell him about his and Pidgette's exploits as they took on more missions from the Horde. By the time he was ready to move on, Dera had been partially successful in convincing Giuseppe to leave his post as Sylvanas' Royal Guard and go out of the city to embark on his own adventures.
Pidge and Dera went to the Outlands, where they gained enough reputation to be invited to join the campaign to defeat the Lich King. Slowly working their way towards Icecrown Citadel, Pidge hated the journey and halfway through asked Deralas to give her some time alone to herself. She didn't like Northrend as it was the source of the Scourge, the army of the Lich King she was previously a part of. She was also constantly worried of falling under his control once more and striking down the nearest person--namely, Deralas. But in the end she gathered her resolve and both of them arrived at the citadel just in time to join the campaign. It was successful, but more than the defeat of a great threat to Azeroth, Deralas was glad that a great burden seemed to have lifted from his partner's shoulders.
Shortly after, the Dragon Aspect Deathwing returned to Azeroth and tore the world asunder. Deralas parted ways with Pidgette to check on Silvermoon, reuniting with Vynleri who also returned to help rebuild the capital. His childhood friend remarked that he had been out too long in the rough, and insisted that he stayed for a while to enjoy the (admittedly luxurious) comforts of home. Deralas did, for a while, but his continued correspondence with Ruppi and Pidgette made him restless. Both of them were now in Pandaria, a continent that had been previously covered in mists but was now open for conquest to both Alliance and the Horde. Dragging Vynleri along once more, Deralas joined the Pandaren campaign of the Horde.
Although a champion of his faction, Deralas never cared much for the politics between the leaders of the different races. When Thrall stepped down and named Hellscream the new Warchief, he didn't have any opinion of it, one way or the other. But it was in Pandaria that he began to give a damn, as Hellscream repeatedly committed atrocities against the land and its beautiful people. Like Ruppi and Pidgette, Deralas fell in love with Pandaria and grew increasingly furious with the new Warchief. It didn't help that, as a blood elf, he was considered not Horde-like and ostracized. When Ruppi told him of Vol'jin's, the Darkspear tribe's leader's, plan to overthrow the Warchief, Deralas rallied under him along with other renegade members of the Horde.
It's just before the Siege of Orgrimmar, with Deralas practically bouncing with excitement to finally fight alongside Ruppi, that I'm taking him from.
Personality: Deralas is, first and foremost, a competitive son of a bitch. When he was a lot younger, he met a powerful troll hunter named Ruppi, and matching Ruppi's skills in combat became his ultimate goal in life. On his steady way towards this dream however, he doesn't shy away from comparing his mettle against other skilled fighters. Deralas is a damage dealer, and his greatest joy in group combat is to deal the most amount of damage in his party or raid group. When he succeeds, he shines. When he fails, he can get pretty fucking depressed.
Deralas has a lot of pride. He's impatient too, and that makes him see each failure or poor performance as a step backwards rather than a temporary roadblock. He's stubborn and rash, and even though he has a good head on his shoulders he can be pretty idiotic. He's hardworking and persevering, but once he gets frustrated he's prone to just rage-quitting and walking away. Give him a couple of days off or a pep talk from Ruppi and he'll be alright though. In this manner, he is very much like a child.
A foul-mouthed one that is. For a blood elf, Deralas uses very rough language. He curses when he's angry and he curses when he's excited. The filter between his brain and his mouth is often non-existent, and only in rare occasions (or default greetings) does he actually construct the pretty and fancy sentences of his race. In fact, when in the company of trolls he'll sometimes even start talking like one.
And that's not where his oddity ends. If his best friend Vyn is the very image of how a blood elf should act and think like, then Dera, who is almost the exact opposite of him, is his race's black sheep. He showed signs of this even before he left his homecity when, as a hunter, he spent a lot of time with trained beasts and then took up engineering as a profession. Both things were viewed as being dirty and looked down upon by blood elves, but Deralas didn't care. There were a lot of things that his people cared about that he didn't, like status or treating other races as being beneath them. If, for instance, a fellow blood elf confessed to consorting with a human, he wouldn't bat an eye. For a blood elf, he also has a very low affinity to magic.
This lack of affinity is made even more glaring by the fact that Deralas' father is a well-respected mage working for Silvermoon City's government. This placed a lot of pressure on Deralas as a child, and his frustration and loneliness at being 'a failure of a son' finally reached its breaking point when he discovered archery to be something he enjoyed and was naturally good at--only to have his father forbid him from continuing with it. His rebellious attitude only grew after the death of his mother, which Deralas partly blames his father for.
That's not to say that Dera is a completely rotten apple however. Quite the opposite in fact. His complete disregard for racial prejudice and his determination to become stronger has endeared him to companions from all races, and he genuinely cares for each and every single one of them. As a damage dealer, he believes that the quicker he can down their opponents the less injuries his companions will sustain, and he constantly worries over them. He has a good heart, and is fundamentally just and kind.
Strengths:
Hunter core abilities
Hunter Beast Mastery specialization abilities
Hunter Marksmanship specialization abilities
Although Deralas is a skilled hunter, like other hunters of the Beast Mastery specialization, his true strength lies in the bond between him and his 'pet' Spirit Beast. Uri is a Spectral Saber Tiger Deralas tamed with the help of Ruppi. He is Deralas' constant companion in his adventures, and acts as a shield (tank) for him while also dealing amazing damage. In addition, Uri has the following special abilities:
Spirit Beast Blessing - Uri blesses Deralas' allies, increasing their mastery, and increasing their critical strike chance by 5%.
Spirit Mend - Uri can heal Deralas and other targets bit by bit over 10 seconds.
Spirit Walk - Uri goes into stealth mode, slowing her movement speed by 50%. Her first attack from stealth receives a 20% bonus to damage. If Uri doesn’t attack anything, she can remain in stealth mode until she cancels it.
Deralas also has a Winged Guardian, which he can summon to carry him over land, water and through air.
On top of being a hunter, Deralas also has two professions: Engineering and Mining. The stuff he can make with his engineering can be found . He also knows a bit of Cooking, a bit of First Aid and a bit of Fishing (tabs for these can be found in the page linked), but is generally mediocre in all of them.
As a blood elf, Deralas is capable of siphoning arcane energies from living things. This not only boosts his own reserves, but also has the added bonus of silencing (stopping special abilities of) any enemies within 8 yards of him for 2 seconds. Due to blood elves' affinity and constant exposure towards magic, he also has a natural resistance towards manipulation and damage caused by magic.
Weaknesses: For a hunter, Deralas is woefully directionally-challenged. He always needs someone to guide him to where he needs to be, and even once there he might get lost and wander out of the area once left to his own devices. he loves flying but hates traveling by flight with a group--four times out of ten he'll eventually lose whoever he's with and will have to be embarrassingly fetched.
Another reason why Dera often gets lost during flying is that he's usually flying at the wrong altitude -- because he's a poor judge of height. This is ironic, considering he uses a bow and fights long range, but once the distance becomes vertical rather than horizontal, Dera has a tendency to underestimate it. Coupled with his impatient attitude, this makes something as mundane as elevators dangerous. He would often try and jump onto them instead of waiting for them, usually resulting to him getting hurt since the elevator would be too far below. The same can be said for going down from high places; Dera would often miscalculate how high off the ground he is, get impatient and jump down instead of taking the long way down and suffer injury.
Deralas is very easily demoralized. Something as simple as not dealing as much damage as his peers can get him down, and if left to his own devices, a failure can become crippling to the young blood elf. He's hot-headed and rash, and can become destructive not only towards the things and people around him, but only to himself.
Marks: F for Failurebecause it's a fashion trend among blood elves apparently on his right bicep. Deralas has a tendency to set the bar high for himself, and when he falls short he thinks of himself as the biggest fucking failure in Azeroth.
A for Addiction on his right wrist and C for Corruption on his left wrist. All blood elves are addicted to the magical energy from the Sunwell. When the Sunwell was destroyed, they turned to fel demon magic to sate their hunger.
